Siri can read out hidden notifications on locked iOS 11 iPhones

The newly discovered iOS 11 bug allows Siri to read aloud your hidden notifications, even if your phone is locked.

Yep, that's right: A new bug discovered by Mac Magazine (via 9to5Mac) reveals that you can simply ask Siri to spy on someone's hidden notifications.

If you use a feature baked into iOS 11 that lets you hide messages, you might be disappointed to learn that Siri isn't so good at keeping that content hidden.

Even with the "Show Previews" featured set to display only "When Unlocked"(Settings Notifications Show Previews), you can still ask Siri to read any hidden notifications out loud by saying "Hey Siri, read my notifications".

Hopefully Apple will fix the bug ASAP, because the illusion of security is arguably more risky than no security at all. As of now, you can fix this issue by disabling Siri while your iOS device is locked.

One of the more clever security features of the iPhone X is that messages and other notifications on the lock screen can only be viewed in their entirety when a person's face is authorized via Face ID.

Ever since Apple launched the iOS 11 past year, it has been taking the flak.

Fortunately, any messages or notifications sent to Apple's own Messages app, iMessage, are still protected. They further assured that the same will be fixed in the upcoming software update. According to Mac Magazine, the issue exists in iOS 11.3, the latest version of Apple's mobile OS, which is on the verge of public release. Until a fix has been released, we suppose users who are anxious about this can maybe try disabling Siri. To do so, go to Settings Notifications select an app and turn off Show on Lock Screen.
