Trump Tower, the mixed residential and business building that sometimes serves as the New York White House when the president is in town, had a fire on its 50th floor today.

The FDNY said that one man, whose apartment the fire started in, is in critical condition. They were not identified. Trump says it was "Very confined (well built building)".

Videos on social media show licking flames and stunned onlookers watching from the ground. Fire crews responded just before 6 p.m. ET after receiving a call at 5:35 p.m. from an automatic alarm system, Nigro said.

An alert from the city warned to expect smoke, traffic delays, mass transit disruptions, and a presence of emergency personnel and vehicles in the area.

Horrified witnesses tweeted: "There is a fire right now in Trump Tower".

The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent.

There were no forced evacuations, but some people fled the tower as alarms rang out around the building.

There was a fire at Trump Tower in January Two people suffered minor injuries in that fire, CBS New York reports. A minor fire also occurred on the building's roof three months ago.

Nigro says no member of the Trump family was at the building on Saturday.
