Sources said Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has asked party cadres to organise similar protests on Friday in support of protection of women.

The Congress President had tweeted on late Thursday night about his intention to go on a candle march. Ashok Gehlot, in-charge of the organisation said Congress units in every State will be holding candlelight vigils to highlight crimes against women. As outrage continued to mount over the Kathua and Unnao rape cases, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday came out in defence of its ministers and MLAs in the two states.

Congress hit out at PM Narendra Modi for calling it "anti-Ambedkar", saying no amount of aggression on his part can hide the fact that BJP-RSS ideology is inimical to interests of Dalits.

In Unnao, BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brother Atul Singh Sengar raped a 16-year-old teenager at their residence on June 4, 2017. The protest lasted almost two hours.
