Gurriel shines in debut as Jays top Yankees

Judge hit his fifth home run, Robertson pitched out of a self-inflicted jam and NY overcame some shaky defence on a chilly night to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 on Thursday. However, it is more likely that he is another option for Blue Jays skipper John Gibbons to use in order to give either Devon Travis or Aledmys Diaz a rest day.

NY got off to a quick, 2-0 lead after Tyler Austin launched a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the second.

"That's frustrating not only for myself but for the rest of the guys in the locker room, for sure".

Gray avoided taking the loss - it went to reliever Domingo German - but he lasted only one out into the fourth inning and the mystery of his Yankees tenure continued.

"I don't want to put any pressure on him, but he hits better than me", Yuli Gurriel said through a translator before Houston took the field against the White Sox in Chicago on Friday night. "We've got to be a part of getting him right and back on track, but this was tough tonight".

But it's becoming increasingly hard to do that with Sonny Gray.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone is reportedly considering a roster shakeup that could drop Stanton down in the batting order.

"I won't go as far as saying it's "alarming" yet", Boone said.

Boone confessed concern about the shortage of speed on Gray's fastball, which was clocked among 91 and 90 miles per hour, but claimed he felt that Gray had been healthy.

"It just seemed like he couldn't reach back for much more", Boone said. "I feel fine", he said.

"It's 40 degrees outside", he said. Gurriel battled injuries in his first season in the minors seeing action in only 64 games in 2017.

Gray, coming off an erratic outing April 12 in Boston in which he allowed six runs in three innings, gave up five runs, five hits and four walks in 3 1⁄3 innings Friday night, swelling his ERA to 8.27 in four starts. The 17 strikeouts Stanton had through his first eight home games in 2010 with his former team, the Miami Marlins, are tied for second on that list. Judge was quiet in the season-opening series against Toronto, going 3 for 15 with zero RBI's, however he homered in Thursday's 4-3 win against Toronto.

"Obviously we're constantly on it and staying on it and he's doing his due diligence with his work, so I'm not too concerned with him", Boone said. I wish I knew... "I just kind of fell apart there in the middle innings".

The 28-year-old righty even departed to the throaty boos usually reserved for newcomer Giancarlo Stanton.

Watch for Aaron Judge in this one as he has enjoyed success against Marcus Stroman, notching 6 hits in 14 at bats with three homers and four RBI's. He faced the Yankees in his season debut and allowed four runs in five innings. The bullpen has a 4.34 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 13.4 K/9. The good thing is there's another game tomorrow.
