Mets officially designate Matt Harvey for assignment

The Mets are finally ready to cut ties with former ace Matt Harvey, who crashed and burned in 2018, failing as both a starter and reliever.

"We thought, from our evaluation in spring training, we could get him to where we wanted him to be and we didn't", Callaway said.

It's stunning, on the one hand, to see the end of Harvey's tenure in NY take place in this manner.

He was suspended for three days without pay in May 2017 for skipping a game following a late night on the town.

Scott Boras, Harvey's agent, said in a text message that the bullpen was tough for Harvey to work on all of his pitches. Just last week, Harvey was seen at a Los Angeles club the evening before he pitched in a game in San Diego. "I like Matt, in spite of all the stuff that's gone on and certainly because of a lot of the stuff that's gone on". He went 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA in 2013, started for the National League in the All-Star Game and was anointed the "Dark Knight of Gotham".

Just a few weeks after being moved to the bullpen by the New York Mets, Matt Harvey is close to joining another team. He's a human being, and as I said before, he's a vulnerable, open human being and kind of leaves himself open for those of us who know and he semi-trusts at least.

Harvey returned from the injury in 2015 by going 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA and helping the Mets reach the World Series.

He's still young and despite undergoing two Tommy John surgeries, there may be a team out there in need of some starting pitching help.

He will be designated for assignment Saturday morning, taking him off the major league roster after a almost six seasons in a Mets uniform.

The Yankees earned their second "walk-off" win of the season.their first came in their previous home game, when Gary Sanchez hit a three-run HR in the ninth on 4/26 vs. Minnesota.extended their winning streak to four games.have taken the lead in their last at-bat in three of their last 4G. And the results weren't any better, as he had a 10.50 ERA in four appearances.

But as Mets starters Jacob DeGrom and Noah Syndergaard emerged as top pitchers, Harvey fell off, and the Mets' trio hasn't become the dominant force many hoped or expected.
