Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to miss Champions League final

Joe Gomez will miss Liverpool's Champions League final against Real Madrid and the World Cup with England after undergoing ankle surgery.

Gomez picked up an ankle injury on England duty back in March but did return after a month on the sidelines to make two Premier League appearances. Mazic, 45, has been an worldwide referee since 2009, and this season was in charge of five Champions League and two Europa League matches, reports Efe.

He joins fellow England global Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in missing the Champions League final and World Cup, while Emre Can remains under a cloud for the decider against Madrid due to a back complaint.

However, Gomez is expected to be back fit for the start of Liverpool's pre-season training in July after completing a rehabilitation program.

Klopp is also harbouring concerns over midfield duo Adam Lallana and Emre Can, while Joel Matip will not feature again this season due to long-term thigh injury.

And then it's on to the Champions League final on May 26, where Liverpool will face Real Madrid at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium, Kiev, and look to secure a sixth title.

"I'm really happy that this very intense period is over now because we have one week to prepare for Brighton", the Liverpool boss told the club's official website.

"We had these situations a few times and it will be, for sure, exciting because Brighton is in a good moment, they played fantastic against (Manchester) United".
