NBA Finals 2018: Warriors Win Game 1 Despite LeBron's Heroics

"That was 100% terrible basketball IQ", one Twitter user wrote, while another pointed out "LeBron James really was a moment away from singlehandedly defeating 4 all-stars only to be foiled by JR Smith", referring to Bron's 50 plus points against a team stacked with so much talent. Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said Smith mistakenly thought the team was leading, and didn't need the basket.

George Hill tied the game with a free throw with 4.7 seconds left, but JR Smith blew a chance to win the game after grabbing the offensive rebound and dribbling out the clock, thinking the Cavs had the lead.

The Warriors then scored on their first possession of overtime when Durant drew a foul from Hill that upset James once again and never looked back, outscoring Cleveland 124-114 in the extra session.

James was not interested in giving any kind of explanation regarding what might have been going through Smith's head in the final seconds.

"It was determined he was out of the restricted area, but he was not in a legal guarding position prior to Durant's separate shooting motion", referee Ken Mauer told a pool reporter.

Schwartz, presumably, isn't the only person who got such advice from James.

James scored 51 points, the sixth 50-point game in NBA Finals history, and also added eight rebounds and eight assists in defeat. I tried to get enough space to bring it out to maybe get a shot off. But this is LeBron James, that's who he is.

But the Warriors clawed their way back in the second quarter before Curry tied the game at 56 apiece with a buzzer-beater three pointer to end the half and send the yellow-shirted crowd into a frenzy.

It seems as though this could be a year similar to 2015, where LeBron was a realistic candidate for Finals MVP despite the Cavaliers losing in six games. "Tie ballgame, and we had a timeout".

Smith's moment of madness was described as "one of the most ridiculous things we've sever seen" by one ESPN commentator. After LeBron hit a clutch bucket, Curry responded with an and-1 that gave the Warriors the lead. He said that James' accomplishment of doubling what he and the Warriors had done was "pretty special". Draymond Green chipped in 13 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. I'm pretty sure everybody didn't think I was going to shoot it over KD right there.
