"This incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, who is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474- TIPS (8477)", a sheriff's office statement said.

Price Chopper will be collecting donations to help support the families of Deputy Patrick Rohrer and Deputy Theresa King who died Friday after an inmate opened fire on them.

"It is very possible that with their own firearm - they were both shot", she said.

Rohrer, 35, died from his injuries on Friday.

Both deputies were taken to the University of Kansas Health System, where one of the deputies succumbed to his injures, said Kansas City police Chief Terry Zeigler.

The inmate was also shot during the attack and is being treated, but his condition has not been made public.

Kansas City police spokesman Zac Blair said officers were speaking to witnesses about shooting. Video from the scene shows the courthouse surrounded by yellow police tape, several police vehicles parked in the street and numerous uniformed law enforcement officers walking the grounds. He also is facing charges in the first-degree murder of a 55-year-old woman on December 26, 2017, in Kansas City, Mo. Kansas City Police Capt. Robert Melton, 46, was gunned down while chasing suspects of a drive-by shooting on July 19, 2016. They didn't give any details Saturday as to his condition.

Gov Jeff Colyer was briefed on the incident as he arrived to a congressional forum hosted by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. Brad Lancaster, 39, was shot and killed on the job on May 9, 2016.

Authorities have identified the Wyandotte County sheriff's deputy who died Friday after he and another deputy were shot while transporting an inmate.

'Our hearts break for our brothers and sisters at Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office as well as for the loved ones of the deputies shot today, one of whom has died.

Local news outlets are reporting that the shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. Friday.
