"XXXTentacion's latest album "?" debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart when it was released in March 2018.

XXXTentacion had been at RIVA Motorsports checking out inventory, sheriff's public information officer Keyla Concepcion said.

XXXTentacion, 20, was reportedly shopping for motorcycles and, as he was leaving, someone ran up to his vehicle and shot him. He was in a black BMW i8 and preparing to leave before 4 p.m. when two armed suspects approached him.

The rapper, who stands accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend, was slapped with 15 new felony charges in December, including witness tampering and witness harassment.

A spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff's Office confirmed with the Miami New Times that a shooting occurred today in Deerfield Beach but didn't provide any additional details.

The controversial rapper was also plagued by legal issues, having faced charges of gun possession, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Some of hip-hop's most legendary lyricists talked about their demise in songs and videos, with both Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. doing so in the 1990s.

The rapper has a history in San Diego.

The rapper has had a troubled past and was one of the artists - along with R.Kelly - to have his music taken off the streaming service Spotify before Kendrick Lamar intervened. TMZ reports XXXTentacion was on house arrest, but a judge recently let him out so he could tour.

Controversy's favourite child, XXXTentacion was also panned for the viral hit "Look at Me" for staging a scene depicting the rapper lynching a young white boy.

In a social media message recorded just hours earlier, he spoke about his own death.

"This story has been corrected to show "?" in all references that was released in March, not last month.
