Paula Godwin, from Anthem, Arizona, was on a hike Friday morning when she nearly stepped on the unsafe viper, she wrote in a Facebook post.

"He jumped right in front of my leg", she wrote on Facebook. "He jumped right in front of my leg [where] I surely would have [been] bit".

Godwin also posted several pictures of Todd after the attack, including pictures of the pup wearing a little white cape that has a paw print and reads "this is my cape", as well as pictures of Todd as tiny puppy and a video tribute to her little hero. "Please say a prayer for my sweet hero".

That's when Todd literally stepped up in Godwin's defense.

An Arizona woman is thanking her dog after the pup shielded her from a snake bite on a recent hike.

The photos of Todd's bitten face were soon shared over to Twitter, where the famed We Rate Dogs account re-posted them - and they soon went viral.

Paula very almost stood on the nasty snake, which was resting on the road, but the hero pooch threw himself in front of his owner to save her from a painful bite.

Paula had been all smiles previously sharing her walk with Todd on Facebook Live. He saved his human from a rattlesnake yesterday.

On Sunday, Godwin wrote on Facebook that Todd was doing well and healing.

Godwin took him to the hospital 10 minutes after he was bitten.

A GoFundMe has been created on behalf of Todd to help other dogs and owners with anti-venom payments.

The courageous pup is expected to fully recover. "Just a thank you to all the support Your kindness and support is truly a blessing".

"People from the Philippines have been contacting us with well wishes", she said.
