Twitch ends ad-free experience for Amazon Prime customers

As of September 14, Twitch users who sign up to Twitch Prime will no longer able to watch streams without advertisements. "This change will strengthen and expand that advertising opportunity for creators so they can get more support from their viewers doing what they love", the blog post states. What you have to do is use your monthly subscription token on a channel that has ad-free viewing turned on.

In case you missed it, Amazon has removed Twitch Prime from the list of benefits of being a Prime member. Other Twitch Prime benefits, such as monthly channel subs, monthly channel games and loot, will not be changing.

In the same email to Twitch Prime users, Amazon also announced the elimination of another perk: no more ad-free viewing. Twitch Prime, however, is still not offered as a standalone service, and remains as a benefit for Amazon Prime subscribers.

When we launched Twitch Prime we were determined to give streamers and their viewers the best value in gaming. If you are a monthly Twitch Prime customer, you get it till October 15th. This promotion has been changed a few times, such as excluding collector's editions and physical items like amiibo, but the 20% discount on pre-orders stood for awhile.

Amazon announced today its 20 percent game preorder discount will last through August 28. As previously mentioned on the Twitch Prime Guide page, although Prime viewers didn't see ads, creators were still getting credit for those impressions as though they had. Besides ad-free viewing, it offers priority customer support and the ability to save broadcasts for 60 days instead of 14. "Instead, starting April 28,"Prime members will now get a $10 Amazon promotional charge when pre-ordering choose games" which may utilize on" nearly anything" Amazon sells. Prime members are now restricted to $10 credit on pre-orders for "select video games".

On the advertising front, Twitch is said to be targeting $1 billion in ad sales for 2018.

Capitalism strikes again as Amazon phases out its preorder discount program for Prime members and looks to replace it with a $10 credit program.

If you're starting further education or going back to university or college in September, make sure you take advantage of Prime membership for students.
