"This is now the largest Mega Millions jackpot ever".

Mega Millions jackpots can quickly reach outsized amounts because each prize begins from an initial $40 million and rolls over, sometimes for weeks and weeks, before anyone claims their winnings.

The jackpot for Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing hit $667 million.

"It's so exciting for our players, and all of us, to see the Mega Millions jackpot getting so close to an all-time record level, ' said Gordon Medenica, Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium and Director of Maryland Lottery and Gaming". "With a little luck, we may still break that record by Tuesday".

The chance of matching all six numbers is one in 302 million.

The drawing is scheduled to happen at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Tickets for both games are $2. More than a billion tickets were sold before that single drawing. The next Powerball drawing will be held Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. ET and tickets also must be purchased by 10:00 p.m. that day to be eligible. "Jackpot fever is definitely sweeping the country!"

No one won the drawing Saturday night, so the jackpot is now at an estimated $354 million.
