Besides the 20 underperforming USA stores that will be closed, 31 stores in Canada and other locations will also be shuttered, the company said in a statement.
The company says it will give associates opportunities to transition to other stores.

Cornwall is not on the list of nine stores in Ontario that will close by February 1, 2019.
The company said a "majority" of the stores being closed are within 10 miles of another Lowe's location and they will try to find jobs at those stores for employees affected by the closings. In a release, the company said the locations are underperforming.
Shoppers should note that the affected stores are no longer available online, and shoppers can no longer place pick-up orders for stores that are closing.
According to the announcement, a majority of the stores on the chopping block are within 10 miles of another store, and most USA employees will have an opportunity to transition into jobs at other locations.
Lowe's will have store closing sales at most of the locations to get rid of inventory.
This news comes less than three months after Lowe's announced it would shut all of its Orchard Supply Hardware stores, a subsidiary it owned for about five years. The company signed a 15-year lease with Ashkenazy Acquisition Corporation for the property, replacing sections of now-closed Macy's. Additional details regarding the impact of the store closings will be provided in the next quarterly earnings release on November 20.
