Lion Air plane rips wing in another incident after fatal crash

The team from Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) said that they had arrived at the preliminary conclusions after sifting through details of the flight data recorder (FDR), or black box, which was found in the Java Sea, near Karawang, West Java, last week. The information can be critical in preventing the plane from stalling.

Such bulletins are routinely issued by aircraft and engine manufacturers, particularly in the wake of major events, and this one does little except to remind crews that the procedures for addressing this situation already exist.

Southwest had 23 737 Max 8 in its fleet as of September 30, with nine more to be delivered by the end of the year. "If there are urgent findings to be delivered, we will convey them to the operators and to the manufacturer", he said, according to AP.

"The aircraft and pilot are grounded for investigation objective", said Pramintohadi in a written statement on Wednesday, November 7.

"The pilot only followed the instruction and directions from the Aircraft Movement Control (AMC) officer", Danang said in a statement.

Family members and friends have farewelled loved ones who died in the Lion Air plane crash in an emotional memorial service at the crash site in Indonesia.

Boeing is now warning pilots that if they experience inaccurate or erroneous readings from the sensor to follow standard flight procedures, though it's not clear what those are. If the problem isn't fixed, it can cause planes to simply fall out of the sky.

Divers are still hunting for the plane's cockpit voice recorder.

On the October 28 flight, from Bali to Jakarta, the pilot's and copilot's sensors disagreed.

The plane's altitude was mostly about 5,000 feet (1,524 meters), but rose and fell repeatedly within a range of a few hundred feet, according to flight-tracking data from FlightRadar24.

Bloomberg says the plane's velocity was uncharacteristically high, possibly touching speeds of 600 miles an hour as it hit the water. In 2015, a wasp nest plugged the sensors on an Allegiant Air jet leaving St. Petersburg, Florida, forcing pilots to cut the flight short and land in Orlando.

Even with modern Global Positioning System tracking, planes need to calculate their precise speed through the air. The small black cylinder contains a sensor that controls the angle between the wing and the air it is moving through.

No injuries were reported in the incident that damaged the aircraft's wing.

Modern jetliners have redundant measurements to help pilots spot and disregard a single reading that looks unlikely and possibly erroneous.

Indonesia's search and rescue agency has extended the search until Sunday.
