"You are all welcome to visit the White House, the people's house".

As first lady, one of Mrs Trump's jobs is to decorate the presidential homes for the holiday season, leading the annual team of White House staff and volunteers to prepare the "People's House" for Christmas. In 2017, the Trumps' first Christmas in the White House, her spindly, white trees with lights casting spooky shadows were also the subject of "Shining" memes. Everything seems until she strolls down a hallway lined with pure-red trees made out of berries.

But many leftists and mainstream media types ridiculed the red trees.

Vogue said that "FLOTUS has chosen a theme more inspired by hell than a holly, jolly Christmas".

The National Christmas Tree is a living Colorado blue spruce.

- Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) November 26, 2018Despite its festive look, some Twitter users pointed out that the blood red Christmas trees resembled costumes from a popular Hulu series, The Handmaid's Tale.

The First Lady of the United States laughed off criticism of her Christmas decorations while bringing attention to the nation's opioid crisis.

"So here you are talking about opioids ... and getting the message out".

The First Lady herself shrugged off the jokes yesterday, saying that tastes differ.

Added @plucas1000: "This is the white house christmas decorations of 2018, and those blood-red trees look literally like out of a horror movie". "... I'm here to remind you that some of those decisions, though they seem minor at the time, could negatively impact you for the rest of your lives".

"We are in 21st century and everybody has a different taste", Melania said during a Liberty University panel.
