Rogers argued that emotion was injected into the grand jury process, particularly because Jean's mother testified. My church membership have all been praying and all St Lucians and church members over the world have been standing with us and I'm truly grateful for that. He says "it's time to work towards getting her a fair trial". It says it was dark inside, she saw the silhouette of a man, and she gave him orders that he didn't follow.

We hope Botham Jean gets justice.

Guyger was sacked on September 24. She was released after posting bond.

"I want to thank the grand jury for the diligence that they have given to this case", Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson said at a Friday news conference.

The bond was re-instated after she was charged with murder, Leach said.

Johnson said murder constitutes someone "intentionally and knowingly" committing a crime, whereas manslaughter involves "recklessly doing something". So we really are just, not happy but we take consolation, we take comfort at this time with this result.

"Today the Dallas County grand jury has returned an indictment against Amber Guyger for the offense of murder", Johnson said. "And more so, the proper penalty to reflect on the pain she has caused", said Jean's mother.

The Star-Telegram, along with several other media outlets, have requested copies of the 911 call Guyger made after the shooting, along with body camera footage worn by the officers who responded.

Johnson, who was voted out of office in the November 6 election, will not see the case through to a trial and said Friday that she "trusts the DA-elect will continue to represent this family (and all of Dallas County) as he seeks justice for victims".

Three days after the shooting, Guyger was arrested and charged with manslaughter.

Johnson also spoke about why it took her office two months to bring the case in front of a grand jury.

Guyger has since been fired from the department.

A former Dallas police officer, who said she mistakenly shot and killed an unarmed neighbor, has been charged with murder on November 30, reported the Dallas Observer.

An attorney for Jean's family accused investigators of slow walking an arrest.

Guyger's arrest affidavit said she entered Jean's unit thinking that it was her own and that she shot Jean because she thought he was an intruder.

Jean's has filed a federal civil lawsuit against Guyger and the city of Dallas. Jean was buried the same day in his native country of St. Lucia. He was a graduate of Arkansas' Harding University, his family told CNN.

Guyger turned herself in to the Mesquite jail about 1 p.m. Friday to be booked on the new murder charge, Mesquite police Lt. Stephen Biggs said. She allegedly claimed she mistakenly believed that his fourth floor apartment was her third floor residence. "Please continue to pray for the Botham Jean family, the Dallas Police Department, and the city of Dallas as a whole".
