Despite incredible efforts from Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball, the Los Angeles Lakers were unable to defeat the Sacramento Kings and lost, 117-116, on a buzzer-beater by Bogdan Bogdanovic over Tyson Chandler's outstretched arm.

The veteran forward was injured Tuesday in L.A.'s upset 127-101 win over the Golden State Warriors as he dribbled toward the basket and slipped.

"I take a lot of pride in (staying healthy)", James said after the Warriors' game.

The Lakers insisted they won't rush LeBron James back from a groin injury after losing their first outing without him Thursday.

"I don't know (if I'm going to miss a game)", James said, per Yahoo's report and prior to undergoing the exam.

A timeline for James' return is further complicated by the fact that he has never had to navigate this severe of a groin injury and still needs to gain an understanding of how his body will respond to treatment.

Lakers head coach Luke Walton said their game plan will change without James leading the charge and hinted that their star player could be out for a period of time. "That could be an injury where if you come back too early you re-injure it and then you're out longer. We've got to do a better job closing out games and just being composed". "But we also will be very cautious when we bring him back".

James, who remained in Los Angeles while his teammates flew to Sacramento, had previously played in every game since the finale of the 2016-17 regular season, when he sat out to rest.

James is averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists this season, his 16th in the National Basketball Association and first with the Lakers.
