7-year-old killed in drive-by near Houston-area Walmart identified

Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting outside of a Walmart in Houston, Texas, that left an 8-year-old girl dead, December 30, 2018. The mother was shot in the arm and taken to Ben Taub Hospital.

A distraught Washington said, "He intentionally killed my child for no reason". A 7-year-old girl was killed instantly. A man driving a red pickup truck pulled up next to Washington's auto and started shooting into her vehicle and then sped away. "I could never imagine the day of losing one of my own children let alone the youngest of my 8 in such a selfish and sensless way (sic)", says the page.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in posts on Twitter and Facebook that the girl who died was 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes.

"I urge you, whoever did this, you know who you are", Razo said.

Investigators are not sure whether the shooting was random or if the family was targeted.

Authorities say a motive for the shooting is not clear. He was driving a red pickup truck.

"The family should be celebrating and spending time together anticipating the new year and instead they're making plans to bury this innocent, precious child", Gonzalez said.

A mother wounded by gunfire pleads to her daughter's killer to come forward. A total of 5 occupants in the vehicle witnessed this innocent child, their loved one, shot and killed before their eyes.

The Sheldon Independent School District said Jazmine was a second-grader at Monahan Elementary and "will truly be missed by all students and staff".

"We are going to do everything in our power to make sure that we locate the individual responsible for this heinous crime", the sheriff said. "We're extremely upset by this, and I know that our community shares those sentiments as well".
