A new trailer for "Captain Marvel" aired Monday night during the College Football Playoff National Championship game between Alabama and Clemson.
We are just weeks away from Brie Larson's debut performance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. We get to see her explain to Fury what this Kree vs. Skrull war is all about while showing off her powers, and we get to see Skrulls as they shape-shift on Earth.
The trailer does two things to further along the hype for the film.

Set in the 1990s, the events of this film will tie into the Avengers sequel set to be released in May this year. It's a perfectly timed preamble to Avengers: Endgame, in which Captain is poised to play a large part in the narrative, hopefully rescuing nearly everyone from Thanos' snap.
Honestly, it is about time we're getting Captain Marvel. "It has a lot of playfulness in it, and that kind of buddy-cop vibe that Captain Marvel has with the Nick Fury character was really an important touchstone for us". All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. "I'm excited, and it's not just the marquee names you know - there are hundreds of names on those documents, on those agreements". But he's also credited as an executive producer on Avengers: Infinity War (he even suggested the song the Guardians come out to) and he was reportedly enlisted to oversee the MCU's more "cosmic characters".
If you just want to watch the new bits, it's mainly focused on the first 30 seconds and the last back and forth with Fury.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel will fly into theaters on March 8. There are times when he actually humanly reacts to things with fear and awe, instead of the stone face he normally has.
