The bank has apologized to customers and said they were attempting to restore services as soon as possible. "We apologize for the inconvenience", it said.

Mobile and Online Banking systems are operational, with the exception of some features, such as consumer credit card and mortgage balances, that were still being restored.

ABC15 reached out to Wells Fargo for further explanation regarding the outages but has not yet heard back.

Downdetector.com which tracks outage reports, shows giant swaths of outages up and down the Eastern seaboard, as well as Texas, California and spots in Iowa and Minnesota.

At 12:45 p.m. Thursday, the bank tweeted that the problems arose from a power shutdown at an unnamed facility after smoke was detected during routine maintenance. It could take a while to restore power and undo the effects of the suppression system. If there are any backup or redundant systems, they're not working. "Online and mobile banking, ATMs and most other services are now available", reads the latest update. There are some rumors Wells Fargo's servers may be offline until Friday.
