Sixers Markelle Fultz Trade Press Release Doesn't Even Mention Him

The Sixers traded the 2017 third overall pick and an additional first-rounder to the Boston Celtics in order to acquire the top pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The deal that shipped Fultz to the Orlando Magic brought back forward Jonathon Simmons, Oklahoma City's protected 2020 first-round draft pick and Cleveland's 2019 second-round choice. The two of them played on USA Basketball's Under-18 team (along with current NBA players Trae Young, Jarrett Allen, Michael Porter Jr., Kevin Huerter, Hamidou Diallo) that not only captured the gold medal in Chile, but it went 5-0 and won by a margin of 30.4 points per game.

Fultz's agent, Raymond Brothers, had told ESPN on Christmas Day that his client is progressing well in rehabilitation on his right shoulder and that he expects Fultz to return to the team this season.

Before worrying about that, though, the Sixers have more pressing matters to deal with - namely, sorting out how these players are going to fit together.

With a rebuilding Magic squad that's in need of backcourt help, Fultz may be able to get healthy and hopefully fulfil his potential after being selected number one overall in the 2017 draft.

Fultz, however, was clearly a bust as a No. 1 pick.

"Just where we are in the season, integrating him in a month or so when we are hoping he'd come back in two [or] three weeks, whenever that was", Brand said.

This season, Fultz won the starting point guard job until the Sixers acquired Jimmy Butler in a trade.

"I'd be lying if I didn't feel sad", Brown said on Friday, via Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Whatever was going on in Philadelphia clearly wasn't working for him. "It was two emotions I had". "To add a piece now, get ready for the playoffs and add some assets, a first-round pick and a high second-round pick, it just felt like the time to do it now". "I feel for Markelle in the situation that he's been in and I'm glad that he's out of it".
