The 61st Annual Grammy Awards are broadcasting live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on CBS.

"Representation is everything", Carlile told AFP at a pre-Grammy gala honoring country legend Dolly Parton.

Gaga won best song written for visual media, for the A Star Is Born track Shallow; and best pop single for the ballad Joanne. It went on to win a Golden Globe at this year's show and is the favorite heading into the Oscars on February 24.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar - who won a Pulitzer Prize for his album DAMN. but has yet to snare a Grammy for Album of the Year - earned eight nods while Canadian rapper Drake snagged seven. He's far from being the oldest-ever Grammy victor, though.

Beck was a double victor during the pre-telecast, taking home best alternative music album and best engineered album (non-classical) for "Colors".

Beck's head mastering engineer Emily Lazar announced she was the first female audio engineer to be nominated for a Grammy in 2015.

Grande is nominated for two awards and could miss the chance of giving a speech onstage if she wins.

Childish Gambino, Tori Kelly and Lauren Daigle won two awards each.

U.S. audiences can watch the event live from 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT onwards on CBS on Sunday.

Women were strongly represented at this year's Grammys.

Ariana Grande - who had a public falling out with the night's executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, earlier this week over her choice of song, a year after Lorde was denied the opportunity to perform during the telecast - won best pop vocal album for Sweetener.

"This is going to be a special Grammys. As much as I'm nominated, I would not be anything without the village of women who are walking into their truth", she said. "This is a moment for women to love on each other and let each other know", she added.

Monae's "Dirty Computer" is one of five albums by women nominated for the top prize at Sunday's show. Taking the stage will be Camila Cabello, Yolanda Adams, J. Balvin, Cardi B, Chloe x Halle, Brandi Carlile, Katy Perry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mark Ronson, Diana Ross, Arturo Sandoval, Travis Scott, St. Vincent, Young Thug, Andra Day, Miley Cyrus, Dan + Shay, H.E.R., Dolly Parton, Fantasia, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Little Big Town, Post Malone, Ricky Martin, Maren Morris, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monae, and Kacey Musgraves.
